Perry is born the 25th of July 1968 in Chicago in Illinois. She was the daughter of Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. The character Jackie Harris was played by her mom in both of the two episodes she appeared on Roseanne. In fear of stress, her parents did not want to see the actress pursue acting until turning 18. Perry said she felt nervous to be an actor during high school, but started performing in theater classes at Northwestern University as a way to make friends after transferring to the university from Boston University. When she graduated, Perry went to New York to search for television work landing small roles in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent however, her homesickness led Perry back home to California where she found theater jobs. In 2013 she performed in The Other Place on Broadway along with her mother. The show featured the father of her character Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 in The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. In the year 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family. Perry was a regular character in the ABC political drama Scandal that starred her dad. She played an older Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon. This spin-off episode from CBS's The Big Bang Theory was an additional portrayal that was younger of her mother. Despite her family link to the character, she was offered the part through an audition.
